Freedom Is No Freelance

Date:

There are bundles of freedom attached to, and arising from being born as a free man while other kinds of freedom flow from status or position of authority. No matter the nature of freedom you might have, I want you to know that freedom is a golden privilege that must not be taken for granted. Freedom should be taken as a rare opportunity to do what is right and not as a right of freelance to do as we please.

With freedom, be cautious of your actions because, there is consequences for everything in life. Freedom in its real sense, is not with a blanket meaning and because, what we do today tells of who we become tomorrow, freedom should not be a basis for idleness or recklessness.

Also know that, laziness borne out of freedom is not rest. It is rather the active cultivation of future regrets. Therefore, eschew idleness and laziness which usually comes from freedom, deny yourself of excuses today and eschew recklessness because, while recklessness calls for downfall, idleness corrodes potentials and excuses limits your growth.

Excuses arising from misguided freedom may make today seems easy but, it gradually creates a monster of inevitable hardship of tomorrow. As such, don’t breed laziness out of your freedom and don’t allow laziness from misguided freedom to rust your mind and abilities.

Rather, discipline yourself in your lines of freedom and while doing so might make today seemingly hard for you but, it is actually and gradually creating a blissful life for you tomorrow. Time has proven that, every successful man and in every field of human endeavours, has an underlying story of imposing the hardest form of discipline within the context of their freedoms on themselves after breaking into freedom from the yolk of imposed discipline of Parents, Guardians, Teachers, Lecturers and persons who stood in loco parentis to them.

Lust as an outgrow of freedom is sweet but its aftertaste is bitter. You can’t be playing with fire and expect not to get burned. Don’t let reckless pleasure rob you of purpose. Preserve your powers, protect your future, and don’t be a victim of your bane desires.

Again, I want you to know that freedom is empty without wisdom. As such, be cautious of your freedoms and discipline yourself by always walking away from things that poison your soul. Work hard in your areas of calling and choose to live by the dictates of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Freedom is not a license for idleness. Freedom is not an excuse for recklessness. Freedom is not a permission slip for laziness. Freedom is not a refuge for endless excuses. Freedom is not a pathway to the pursuit of unchecked pleasure and lust.

True freedom is the ability to exercise discipline, embrace responsibility, make wise choices, and live with purpose. It is not found in doing whatever one desires, but in having the wisdom and self-control to do what is right in the sight of Allah and for His sake.

Allah reminds us in Qur’an 29:69 thus:

And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.

May this reminder inspire us to value our freedoms and use it wisely. On this blessed day of Jum’ah, I pray that Allah bestow on you; fresh glory, enriched health, accelerated favour, irreversible success, unfailing rahama and solemn peace of mind
