The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a fresh verification process in Ondo State, as part of efforts to sanitise the voters’ register ahead of future elections.
The exercise, which forms part of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), will run from April 29 to May 5, 2026, according to a statement issued by the commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Ogunseye Olayinka, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke.
INEC said the initiative will involve the public display of the Preliminary Register of Voters across all 18 local government area offices in the state, with verification scheduled daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The commission explained that the move is aimed at allowing newly registered voters, as well as those who applied for transfers or updated their biodata, to confirm the accuracy of their information.
Beyond verification, the exercise is also expected to serve as a filtering mechanism, giving members of the public the opportunity to flag irregularities such as underage registrations, deceased persons and non-citizens listed in the register.
INEC emphasised that the process is critical to strengthening the credibility of the electoral roll, noting that public participation remains key to achieving a transparent and reliable voters’ database.
The commission also urged eligible residents in Ondo State to take advantage of the window to either confirm their details or raise objections where necessary, as part of broader efforts to enhance electoral integrity.
