The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has started its 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations nationwide, with the deployment of personnel and logistics to ensure safe and hitch-free movement of road users.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, made this known in a statement by the corps’ Spokesperson, Mrs Felicia Kalu, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Kalu stated that the operation, scheduled to run from April 1 to April 8, is aimed at managing anticipated surge of vehicular and human traffic during the Easter celebrations.
She added that the initiative was necessitated by increased travel activities as Nigerians join Christians worldwide to commemorate Easter.
She quoted the corps marshal as saying “the FRSC has identified critical high-risk and high-traffic corridors for special attention.
“These routes include Lagos–Ibadan, Sagamu–Ore–Benin, Abuja–Lokoja, Benin–Auchi–Okene, Kaduna–Zaria–Kano, Ilorin–Mokwa–Birnin Gwari, and Bauchi–Gombe.
“Major eastern routes such as Onitsha–Asaba–Benin, Onitsha–Owerri, and Enugu–Aba–Port Harcourt would also receive focused operational coverage.”
The corps marshal said personnel and operational assets had been strategically deployed along identified corridors to enhance traffic flow, ensure rapid emergency response and boost operational visibility.
He said FRSC would intensify enforcement against traffic violations, known to cause road crashes, including speeding, dangerous driving and overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phone while driving, tyre violation, road obstruction and mix-loading of passengers with goods.
He added that special attention would also be given to seat belt compliance, use of child restraint, passengers’ manifest violation and mechanically deficient vehicles.
“Mobile courts will be deployed along major highways to ensure prompt prosecution of traffic offenders.
“The measure will facilitate immediate dispensation of justice, in line with traffic laws and promote discipline among road users”, the FRSC boss said.
He also said that the corps had activated 24-hour patrol, rescue and traffic management services to support the exercise.
Mohammed said that the operations would be backed by patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks and modern enforcement equipment.
He said that public enlightenment campaigns would be intensified through the National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other media platforms to provide real-time travel advisories and safety information.
He assured Nigerians of the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property on the highways and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid risky driving and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy, before embarking on journeys.
The corps marshal advised the public to contact the FRSC through its toll-free number — 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC in case of emergencies.
