The Sokoto State Police Command has intensified activities marking the 2026 National Police Week with a symbolic walkathon aimed at promoting fitness, strengthening community ties, and enhancing public safety.
The exercise, held on Tuesday, took off from the Command’s Headquarters along Gwandu Road and moved through Gidan Man Ada Roundabout, covering about five kilometres in a round trip.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said the walkathon drew participation from officers and personnel of the Command, reflecting unity and readiness within the force.
He explained that the initiative was designed to reinforce the visible presence of police officers within communities, while reassuring residents of their accessibility, responsiveness, and commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
According to him, the exercise also highlighted the physical fitness and operational preparedness of personnel.
Speaking during the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, noted that the walkathon aligns with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
He stressed that the Command remains close to the people at all times and called on residents to collaborate with the police in sustaining peace and security across the state.
Shaffa further urged members of the public to report concerns and grievances, assuring that the Command is fully prepared to address issues professionally and promptly.
