FUDMA Appoints Dr. Hassan Usman as New University Librarian 

The Governing Council of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), has approved the appointment of Dr. Hassan Usman as  the new University Librarian.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Ali Abubakar Jatau, made the announcement shortly after the 40 Regular Meeting of the the Council.

He said that the appointment followed the consideration of the report of the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board on the Appointment of the University Librarian.

According to the Chairman, Dr. Usman’s appointment followed a rigorous selection process involving five shortlisted applicants for the position.

”The five applicants who were invited for the interview, participated in the rigorous and transparent selection process of the selection board.

“The top three performing applicants were submitted to the Governing Council to select and approve the appointment of one of them,” he said.

The newly appointed University Librarian, Dr. Hassan Usman hails from Samaru in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He attended Samaru L.E.A. Primary School, Samaru, Zaria, Government Secondary School (GSS), Bomo, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

At ABU he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science and a Masters in Information Management.

The new Librarian also obtained a second Master’s degree in Library Science from the International University of Bamenda (IUB), Cameroon, before proceeding to Career Point University, India for his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Library and Information Science.

The new Librarian has built an outstanding and distinguished career in University librarianship, spanning several years of dedicated service. Through dint of hard work, competence and professionalism, he rose through the ranks from Library Officer to Principal Librarian, establishing himself as a respected academic librarian and administrator.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has served in several strategic capacities at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, including Faculty of Education Librarian, Faculty of Social Sciences Librarian and Abdullahi Muhammad Public Library Librarian.

Prior to his appointment, he was serving as the Librarian of the Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Beyond his responsibilities within the University, Dr. Usman has served as a Member of the Kaduna State Library Board, representing Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He also served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), where he made remarkable contributions to teaching, library administration, academic support services and the promotion of research and scholarship.

An accomplished scholar, Dr. Usman has authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles, published in reputable national and international journals.

His research contributions have enriched the field of Library and Information Science and continue to support knowledge creation and dissemination.

He is aptly recognized for his integrity, diligence, administrative competence and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

The University Management is hopeful that his wealth of experience, vision, and dedication will further strengthen the University’s Library, enhance access to information resources, promote research excellence, and support the attainment of the FUDMA’s strategic objectives.
