Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, a former Minister of Finance under the administration of erstwhile Military President Ibrahim Babangida, is dead.
Abubakar Alhaji, popularly called triple ‘A’ passed on at the age of 88.
The one time Minister of State for National Planning and Sardauna of Sokoto, according to report, died on Thursday in Abuja at an undisclosed hospital.
He was born on November 22, 1938 in Sokoto and was a member of the Sokoto Royal caliphate.
He joined the Nigerian civil service in 1964 and rose to become a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance by 1979.
He served as Minister of State for Budget and Planning before taking over as the federal Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1991 under the military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji was also at a time Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s.
He was turbaned as the Sardauna of Sokoto in 1990, inheriting the revered traditional title previously held by Sir Ahmadu Bello.
The late Minister will be buried later today in Sokoto.
