The Federal University, Gashua (FUGA) honored distinguished personalities, including Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Nigeria’s First Lady Sen. Remi Tinubu, and other prominent figures, during its maiden combined convocation ceremony on Saturday.

Other notable leaders including the former Yobe state Governor and current Minister of Police Affairs Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, ex-Senate President Sen. Ahmed Lawan, retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I, the Emir of Lafiya, and Alhaji Bukar Aji, former Head of the Federal Civil Service.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Maimuna Waziri hailed the convocation as a testament to the institution’s resilience and academic excellence since its founding in 2013.

She paid tribute to the university’s pioneers, including former principals and the founding Vice-Chancellor, whose vision laid the groundwork for its growth.

“This is not just a celebration but a defining chapter in our history,” Prof. Waziri declared.

“It reflects our commitment to national development through education.”

The graduating students, drawn from the faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Management and Social Sciences, and Science, represented FUGA’s first three cohorts.

The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged key stakeholders, including the Yobe State Government for providing land for expansion, and former Senate President Ahmed Lawan for facilitating critical projects.

Others are the Federal agencies like the CBN, NEDC, NITDA, and NCC were recognized for their infrastructure and development interventions.

Governor Buni, in his address, expressed gratitude for the honorary degree and outlined his administration’s efforts to rebuild Yobe’s education sector after years of insurgency.

“Upon taking office in 2019, we declared a state of emergency in education,” he said.
