The Federal University of Technology, (FUT), Minna, have concluded arrangement to graduate a total of 7,482, students on Saturday, June 21, as part of series of activities marking the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd convocation ceremonies of the institution.
The vice-chancellor, Professor Musbau Adewumi Akanji, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the permanent campus of the institution, at Gidan Kwano, a suburb of Minna, the Niger state capital yesterday, said, of the total number, 6,394 bagged the First degree; 576, Master’s degrees; 45 Doctor of Philosophy degrees and 467 Post-graduate Diplomas would be honoured.
According to Akanji, the breakdown of the First degrees include: a total of 82 First-Class, 1,533 Second-class Upper division, 3,000 Second-class Lower Division; 1,563 Third-class and 216, Pass.
He stated that for the first time in the history of the institution, certificates will be issued to graduating students of 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 sessions, while those of 2012/2013 will be issued with students’ copies of their academic transcripts immediately after the ceremony.
Professor Akanji said the certificates of 2012/2013 graduating set will be ready for collection as from the last week of October, 2014, due to the fact that their results were just recently approved by the Senate of the University and the additional feature of personalization of individual’s certificate through embossment of passport photographs introduced.
“I am also happy to inform you that graduates of this University can now obtain their academic transcript not later than two weeks after submission of application of request”.
The vice- chancellor pointed out that one other thing that happened to the University in current year was the fact that “we have broken to the central stage of international recognition. In terms of ranking of universities in Africa, coming as number 64 in Africa and four in Nigeria.
He pledged to rededicate the institution to the service of humanity, by engaging in relevant researches and by getting involved in community services, in consonance with the motto of the institution, “Technology for Service”.
The vice-chancellor therefore, assured of the readiness to keep his office open to the people, in order to provide any information about the University.
