Ganduje receives 209,520 doses of COVID-19 vaccine

The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has received the first batch of 209,520 doses of astraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19.
The consignment had arrived Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA on Tuesday night via Allied cargo aircraft, E-cargo 5N-TON.
Addressing journalists immediately after signing the documents, Ganduje said the state government would flag off administering the vaccine “very soon”.
Represented by the state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, Ganduje said the state has decided to start the vaccination exercise on front line workers who are engaged in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.
He said the exercise would start with health workers, then security agents, then airport staff down to the other groups of people.
According to him, the government would also focus on people with underlying health issues and the fourth phase will focus on other target populations.”
He said he would be the first person to be vaccinated in the state, noting that people would be encouraged to accept it if they see him take the shot of the vaccine.
The governor pointed out that the state action committee on COVID-19 would meet to determine the modalities and when the vaccination would begin.
He disclosed that he hasld already started meetings with all stakeholders across the state to ensure Kano residents are well sensitized on the need to accept the COVID-19 vaccine.
