Members of the organized labour in kaduna state yesterday, joined their counterparts across the country to stage a peaceful protest against the proposed legislation for the removal of National Minimum Wage from the Exclusive Legislative list.
Speaking at the premises of the State House of Assembly, kaduna State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman who led hundreds of his members to protest against the bill currently at the National Assembly, said that the planned removal is a declaration of war on Nigerian workers.
The labour union members who marched from the NLC state secretariat to the Kaduna State House of Assembly, chanting solidarity songs, carried placards and banners with inscriptions like: Why are our representatives against us? Workers create wealth and deserve the best and Next level pay minimum wage now, among others.
Presenting the labour’s request to the Speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, the State Chairman of NLC, said, National Minimum Wage is workers’ right and should not be decentralized.
