Ghanaian slumps, dies as Chidoka tours Lagos airport

Aviation Minister, Mr. Osita Chidoka yesterday began a two-day tour of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, in Lagos, where he took time to touch various parts of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and the international wing of the airport.

However, a Nigerian passenger resident in Ghana slumped and died at the international wing of the Lagos airport moment before the visit of the minister, who was accompanied by heads of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIPB) and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

The agencies heads took turn to brief the new helmsman on the state and activities within their domain and also showed him around on-going projects at the international wing.

Chidoka visited the TRACON facility within the vicinity of the airport and other vital places before he begins what an aide call a workable plan for the industry.

The dead Nigerian resident in Accra, Ghana had arrived the international wing of the MMIA to complete boarding formalities on his way back to the Ghanaian capital before he suddenly slumped and died at the airport.

The passenger, Mr. Akunne Osei, came into the country on Friday on a business trip, aboard an Arik Air aircraft, before he took ill on Saturday. The airport authority confirmed that  he called his doctor in Accra, who instructed him to return to Ghana for further medical attention.

Spokesman for FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati said “During boarding formalities for his return trip to Accra, at the international terminal of MMA, Mr. Osei, who had obviously become weak at the time, was subjected to Ebola Virus test by port health officials, the result of which was negative. No further attention was paid to him after his Ebola Virus read negative, but the passenger later slumped and died around the airport health office.”
