The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major-General Kenneth Osuji has charged officers and men in the Nigerian Army to remain highly committed to discharging their duties when called upon, as, according to him, the activities of Boko Haram terrorism and armed bandits are still a recurring threat in the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) and the nation at large.
Speaking at the De-induction of 21 Support Engineer Regiment (SER) (Nigerian Army Battalion 42), who just returned from the United Nations Mission in Darfur after nine months, Osuji commended the commanding officer, officers and soldiers of 21 SER for the perseverance, dedication and zeal exhibited individually and collectively during the course of duty in UNAMID, Darfur.
“As you are all aware, the activities of Boko Haram terrorism and armed bandits are still recurring threat in the Division Area of Responsibility (AOR) and the nation at large. You are therefore expected to remain highly committed to discharging your duties when called upon.
“I have been informed that your unit displayed a high level of professionalism and discipline at Darfur, which is a testimony to the sound training provided before induction; while commending you on this feat, I hope such enthusiasm and commitment will be replicated during other task you will be assigned to from time to time.
“The successful completion of your assignment in Darfur means you have been adequately equipped and exposed to face tougher challenges back home; I expect a rapid re-orientation of the unit to face the current security realities in our country and in particular, Kaduna,” he said.
He added: “As you will be proceeding on a 2 week’s disembarkation leave and to re-assemble back as a unit, I urge you all to remain focused and highly disciplined while on leave, as the Nigerian Army will not accept any form of complacency, hence the need for discipline when on leave and at return to unit”.
