Giwa FC targets Plateau Challenge Cup ticket

Date:

A top official of Giwa FC of Jos yesterday said one of the club’s target for the season was to earn the Plateau ticket to compete at the National finals of Federation Cup.

The club’s Marketing Officer, Sam Adesoji, made the disclosure after Giwa wallopped International Academy of Jos 4-1 in a Federation Cup semi-final on Sunday.

With the victory, Giwa would now have to wait for the winner of second semi-final between Mighty Jets and Plateau United for the final.

Adesoji said the club was on track toward achieving one of its targets, pointing out that it was the first time the club was scoring more than three goals in a match.

“The scores are clear indications that the team is determined and hungry for laurels,’’ he said adding that it was Giwa’s maiden appearance in the state’s Challenge Cup.

Adesoji, who doubles as interim assistant coach of the club following the suspension of the substantive management team of the club by its proprietor, Chris Giwa, hoped they would win the state final.

“If we win, we will represent the state at the national finals and we want to win both the Plateau and the national versions of the cup.

“I remember when the proprietor of the club was rewarding the team for gaining promotion to the Globacom Premier League; he said going continental is his target.

“I think that is what the boys want to achieve given the way and manner they are playing,’’ Adesoji said.

The interim assistant coach also said that club was also performing well in the premier league in spite of its involvement in other competitions.

According him, the club has so far done well by amassing 12 points in spite of late entry into the league.

“We did not play this weekend in the league because Bayelsa United which we are supposed to play against were engaged in a continental fixture,’’ he added.
