With barely 13 days to the 2026 Commonwealth Games slated to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has partnered with Free to Air broadcast company, What Network, to ensure that Nigerians enjoy comprehensive coverage of the games.
The company will be bringing Team Nigeria’s campaign at the games to millions of homes across the country.
Speaking at a world press conference, Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade said through the partnership, The What Network secured the Free-to-Air broadcast rights for Nigeria, with live coverage to air on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), TV Continental (TVC) and other interested terrestrial TV stations.
Olopade further revealed that the games will also be available via online streaming, ensuring Nigerians can follow every moment of the action across multiple platforms at no cost.
The Director General described the partnership as a major step in connecting Nigerians with their national teams, even as he said the Commission will continue extending such to other such championships.
He said; “Recognising the importance of bringing the Games into every Nigerian home, the National Sports Commission has partnered with The What Network to deliver free-to-air coverage of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
“Through this collaboration, every Nigerian will be able to follow Team Nigeria’s journey live and free, celebrating the dedication of our athletes and inspiring the next generation of sporting champions.”
Under the arrangement, coverage will begin with the opening ceremony on July 23rd and continue throughout the championship, with all events available free to Nigerian homes.
Olopade added that in addition to live broadcasts, viewers will enjoy a daily two-hour highlights programme featuring the biggest moments, medal-winning performances, athlete interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Glasgow.
He said the initiative underscores the Commission’s commitment to making major international sporting events accessible to all Nigerians while strengthening support for Team Nigeria as the nation’s athletes compete on one of the world’s biggest multi-sport stages.
The Director General also revealed that the Commission will instantly reward winning athletes with various sums of money. He explained that gold medals will attract the sum of $3,000 dollars, while the silver and bronze medals will attract $2,000 and $1,5000 dollars each.
