An International human rights protection movement under the aegis; ‘Global Rights ‘has urged the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to halt all actions that seek to curtail freedom of expression on Nigerians.
In a press statement signed and issued by the Program Officer, Civic Space for the group, Damilola Decker weekend dropped the position demanding that the administration call itself to order by reaffirming its commitment to the democratic norms in the interest of the citizenry.
Decker advanced that the Global Rights strongly condemned the decision of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to ban the airplay of Eedris Abdulkareem’s song, “Tell Your Papa,” across radio and television stations in Nigeria.
“This action represents yet another disgraceful and deeply troubling assault on freedom of expression—one of the cornerstones of any genuine democracy. NBC’s failure to provide any lawful or sensible justification for this ban speaks volumes.
“It leaves little doubt that the Commission’s decision is rooted in political convenience rather than regulatory necessity. The song openly critiques the current Tinubu administration’s governance and policy failures and appears to have been singled out solely for its critical content. This is unacceptable in a democratic society.
