Gombe state government has pledged support to partner with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), with a view to ensure that quality of education is maintained by the citizenry.
Gombe state deputy governor, Mr. Thaanda Jason Rubainu who stated this yesterday in Gombe, when he received the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe on a courtesy visit in his office also commended the Open University for complementing the state government’s efforts in the area of educational development.
The deputy governor described the Open University policy of education as unique, in the sense that it has the capacity of providing education of all categories of people who want to learn on the need to forge ahead in the education sector.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria, Prof.
Vincent Ado Tenebe, who led the delegation of principal members of the university to the deputy governor’s office, thanked the state government for assisting the university with accommodation and five plots of land for its permanent site along Dukku road for lectures.
He said the university was established to offer learning opportunity to people whose busy official schedules and financial constraints may not allow them to study in conventional universities.
The VC explained that the university has sixty training centres spread across the thirty- six states of the federal and special centres, for the Army, Police, Civil Defence among others, adding that they intend to establish study centres in all the seven hundred and seventy four local governments, across the country, in the nearest future.
