Benue State Government has commenced the construction of 16 arterial roads in Makurdi, the State capital.
This is just the Chairman, Technical Committee on Infrastructure, Planning and Implementation Engr. (Prof) Gabriel Akpen disclosed to newsmen in an interview that the road is to cost 6 billion, assuring that the road will be constructed according to specification and within the time frame of 11 months.
Governor Hyacinth Alia who fliagged-off the construction of the 15.39 km roads within Makurdi Metropolis on Monday, stressed that the construction is monumental as it marks a significant milestone in his government’s commitment to revolutionize the infrastructure of Benue State as well as prepare it to lay the foundation of a New Benue within 100 days in office.
He reiterated his pledge during the campaigns to better life of the people, saying “this we are ready with willpower and sincerity to achieve within the available resources to us for your benefit”.
Acdording to the Governor, the roads include, New GRA part of Makurdi: i. Odeh-Ageh-John Felse Street (1.08km) with Spur to Akuma Abanyam and Othaniel Taanghar Street,Orkuma Akunda Street (810 meters), Lush Street (580 meters),Augustinian Community Roads (1.13km),Adeke/ Achusa Part of Makurdi, Nigerian Navy Barracks Road (1.98km, Keghem Malu street (420 meters)
He added too, Wuurukum Part of Makurdi amongst them,David Jebe Street (1.33km) Kormya City Guest House — Akpeme (450 meters) Tyagher Gbaa Street (640 meters), W Victoria Aende Street (590 meters), Keke NAPEP Street 1.450 km) while the North Bank Part of Makurdi are,Ghandi Street (1.43km),Federal Low-Cost Housing Road (1.1km).
“In High Level Part of Makurdi, the roads are Eight Avenue (760meters), lorkyaa Ako street (extension) (700 meters) and Wadata Part of Makurdi, Ikeja —Sokoto Street (73 0meters).
‘The Construction of these roads will be a significant step towards achieving our
goal of providing quality infrastructure for our people. These roads will not only improve transportation within the city, but also create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth. I urge you to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in supervising these works, ensuring that every aspect adheres to the specified requirements and that the projects are completed within the stipulated time frame.
“The roads we inaugurate today will have a transformative impact on our state capital. A good road network is the lifeline of any thriving city, and Makurdiis no exception. These well-designed roads, with their asphalt surfaces, concrete drains, and
culverts, will not only improve transportation and connectivity within the city but also boost economic activities and enhance the overall quality of life for our citizens.
“As the Food Basket of the Nation, Benue State plays a pivotal role in ensuring food security for our nation. Our farmers work tirelessly to produce the grains and
crops that sustain millions of households across Nigeria. But for this agricultural abundance to reach the markets and homes, we need an efficient and reliable transportation system. Additionally, it will attract more investments, stimulate commerce, and open up new opportunities for businesses to thrive.
“I want to reiterate my commitment to infrastructural turnaround / throughout the lifespan of my.administration. We recognise that robust and sustainable infrastructure is the bedrock of development. Over the years, our state has faced its share of challenges, but we are determined to turn the tide and build a prosperous future for all.
“To the Contractor (M/s Triacta Nigeria Limited) who has been selected to execute these projects, I urge you to be diligent, adhere to the specified requirements, and complete the works within the stipulated time frame. Your work will shape the
future of our capital city, and we trust in your expertise to deliver outstanding results”, Alia said.
