Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has taken bold steps to bolster quality healthcare services by diligently executing several multimillion projects at the Specialist Hospital Sokoto.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that the hospital is one of the reputable Premier world-class health facilities owned by the state government across he state.
In the same vein, it could be happily recalled that the provision of efficient medicare to the people of the state is part of the 9-Point Smart Agenda of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, who just celebrate his three years anniversary.
The Chief Medical Director ( CMD)of the hospital, Dr Attahiru Isa Sokoto, told newsmen on Saturday in Sokoto it is now provides 24-hour services to the people of the state, all courtesy of the giant strides of the people-oriented Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
He sadly recalled, “When I was appointed about two years to head this hospital, it was just as good as dead. It was moribund.
“All the infrastructure had decayed, some were vandalised while the dearth of vital utilities like power and water was acute.
“All the boreholes were non operational and the hospital was almost always in total darkness, hence the hospital was just like a ghost structure.
“Sadly, two generators, each with a 5 KVA capacity disappeared into thin air while even a caterpillar developed wings.”
According to Dr Attahiru Isa Sokoto, even the mortuary of the hospital which was previously in a good state was not spared in the vandalism spree.
Similarly, the CMD said, ” No fewer than fifteen 18-seater buses which were serviceable also disappeared including an array of hospital equipment like beds and mattresses also developed wings, among others.
“The crux of all the above, among several other inherited operational challenges hitherto vehemently pampered the operations of the hospital.
“All that is now history with the swift and bold actions of the Governor who had invested hundreds of millions of Naira into the hospital with the execution of massive renovation works while several other new ones were also logically executed.”
Dr Attahiru Isa Sokoto also happily recalled that the magic wand was the pioneer unscheduled midnight visit of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto to the hospital to assess its terrible situation back then.
He stated that a new 360 KVA generator had now been installed at the hospital that supplies alternative power supply to its entire community.
Dr Attahiru Isa Sokoto further disclosed that singular gesture of the Governor had alleviated the suffering of the patients and staff of the hospital.
He added that new hospital equipment and other accessories like beds and mattresses were had also been provided.
Similarly, he added that the Theatres and all the wards of the hospital were also glaringly given a facelift, adding, “this is evident right from the GOPD.
“In the same vein, dozens of 15 KVA solar power inverters and their accessories were installed in all parts of the hospital to ensure a 24-hour power supply.
“So, the era of using torchlights to conduct operations was since over while we now always have adequate drugs and other consumables.
” The hospital now provides free drugs to all under-five children and pregnant women, while we are also providing free malnutrition nuts to malnourished children.
“This is coupled with the efficient services being provided at our 24-hour complementary feeding centre for the children, among several other commendable efforts of the state government to make the hospital a real world-class facility.”
Dr Attahiru Isa Sokoto commended Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his sustained fatherly support to the hospital, saying, ” “this is our motivation to provide 24-hour quality healthcare services to the people of Sokoto State and beyond.
” We are also lucky to have a core committed and patriotic medical professional, Dr Faruk Wurno as our Health Commissioner.
“The unwavering commitments of the duo are unparalleled and we will continue to live above board so as not to disappoint them as well as the people of the state.”
