Gov. Bago to confiscate trucks of of marketers mopping food

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has issued an executive order to stop the activities of marketers mopping up food stuffs from the local markets in the state.
He gave the order while addressing journalists at government house Minna, saying that anyone arrested will have their trucks confiscated and the food stuffs shared for the citizens.
This was sequel to the food price hike protest by some group of hoodlums acting on intelligence attempted hijacking trucks loaded with food heading towards Abuja and Northern part of the country.
Governor Bago attributed the current hunger experienced in the country to the activities of the food speculators who are invading local markets to mop up food stuffs and transporting them out to other states and neighboring countries.
According to him, the food inflation can be attributed to the unscrupulous activities of those who are deliberately subverting efforts of the state government to control the Sowering food prices in the State.
The governor hinted that, on the early hours of Monday, some unidentified hoodlums mobilized women and youths to block some food trucks passing through Minna with an intent to cart away the food stuffs, but the timely intervention of security agencies their plans was curbed.
The Governor revealed that a number of arrest has been made in connection with the protest, assuring that they will soon be arraign in court after conclusion of preliminary investigation for prosection.
Meanwhile, Niger State Government has called on the people of Kpagungu to remain calm as the state government is working tirelessly to cushion its citizen hardships to it barest minimum.
This was made known by the State Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba shortly after addressing the protesters at the Kpagungu round-about Minna, said the state government will continue to distribute palliative to the down trodden.
The Deputy Governor explained that the State Government is very much aware of the economic hardship faced by its citizens, hence advised them to remain calm as modalities have been put in place to ease their suffering.
