The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, yesterday signed the 2026 Appropriation and Finance Appropriation into law, formalizing a N515.532 billion budget focused on economic growth and infrastructural transformation.
The Governor commended the State House of Assembly for its thorough scrutiny and timely passage of the budget, which was initially presented on November 6, 2025.
He described the collaborative process as evidence that the executive and legislative arms are “working on the same page” to serve the people.
The signed budget, slightly adjusted from the initial proposal of N515.583 billion, allocates N291.9 billion (62%) to capital expenditure and N223.6 billion (38%) to recurrent services.
Governor Buni stated the budget represents continuity in transforming key sectors like education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure to improve citizens’ quality of life.
While reiterating his administration’s core principles, the Governor vowed to maintain strict accountability, probity, and budgetary discipline.
He also cited Yobe’s leading position in Nigeria’s Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SIFTAS) program and recognition by independent watchdog BudgIT as benchmarks to uphold.
To ensure effective implementation, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government, the Ministry of Budget and Planning, and the Ministry of Finance will provide clear policy direction and monitoring for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
On his part, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, commended the Governor for his collaborative partnership with the legislature, following the his formal assent to the 2026 fiscal document.
