The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has launched a state-wide grassroots consultation to tighten security across Taraba, with zonal summits already underway in the Northern and Central zones.
People’sdaily reports that, the initiative which began Monday is designed to identify and close every security loophole in the state before a statewide summit in July 2026.
The Secretary to the State Government, Chief Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps, who spoke on the theme, “Listening to the Communities, Securing the Homeland, Building Taraba’s Security Solution from the Grassroots” said the Governor’s directive is to collect direct input from communities on kidnapping, banditry, and communal conflicts in order to address them.
“The Governor’s idea is to collect ideas and suggestions on how to better secure Taraba and the people at the grassroots, Taraba is safe. What His Excellency is doing is to close every loophole that may expose the state to danger.
Kataps disclosed that reports from the three zones will be submitted to Governor Kefas ahead of the first Taraba State Security Summit in July.
He cited the recent suspension of all mining activities in the state as one of the proactive steps to prevent security threats.
“The good news is that the people are happy with the security situation they are enjoying and have identified areas they want government to improve on,” he said.
He further urged residents, especially in the Central Zone, to sustain existing peace and report suspicious persons to security agencies.
