Gov Mutawalle revokes contract on environmental sanitation

Governor Bello Muhammad Mutawalle of Zamfara State has announced the cancellation of the contract on environmental sanitation which was awarded to a company by the previous administration.
This was disclosed at a press conference by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu, shortly after assessment visit to the dump sites across Gusau, the state capital yesterday.
Barrister Aliyu said, the idea for the assessment tour was informed by the directive given by the Governor on the need to locate dump sites in the state capital and how quickly they will be closed for the safety of people health wise, and to study preferred sites for refuse dumps at suburban areas.
He further lamented the locations of the dumping sites which were all planned by the contracted city cleaning company instead of constitutionally expected ministry of environment, the development which made living in the state very prone to malaria and other killer related diseases.
According to him, the contracted company has failed to carry out it’s duty by keeping the state capital clean, but rather engaging in various unnecessary issues that would keep putting people’s health endangered instead, adding that, “For these and so many other boring issues therefore, the state government found it necessary to revoke the contract.
“My Governor learnt that, the constitutional duty of the ministry of environment which involved environmental sanitation, was eventually denied by the previous administration through engaging a city cleaning company”, Barrister Mahdi has stated.
