INEC-Attahiru-JegaBy Miriam Humbe

As preparations towards the 2015 elections get under way, a non political group, Africa Grassroots Empowerment Organization AFRIGEO, has called on the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission Prof. Attahiru Jega, to employ ethical practices that will put an end to election malpractices and post-election violence in the country.

While addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Executive President of AFRIGEO, Prince Gomene Namene said it is only through the instrumentality of peaceful elections that we can produce leaders in various positions of authority who will work towards providing the dividends of democracy to the electorates.

He assured that AFRIGEO was fully prepared to embark on sensitization campaigns against election violence to further entrench the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria before and after 2015 general elections.

“We are disposed towards ensuring that Nigeria remains a ‘one united nation’ in conformity with the dreams of our founding fathers. This, we hope to achieve through massive grassroots campaigns for peaceful polls”, he said.

He called on peace loving Nigerians to rise up against the prophecy of doom from America on the disintegration of Nigeria come 2015.

“We have no other country than Nigeria. For this reason, we must do all it takes within the confines of legality to keep Nigeria as one strong, united and indivisible entity”, he said.
