Group Condemns Violent Attack On EFCC Officers In Anambra

Date:

A nongovernmental organisation, Triple Seal Global Initiative for Peace has condemned in totality, the unwarranted attack by cluster of suspected cybercriminals, widely known as Yahoo Boys, on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission officers traveling to Anambra on an assignment from their zonal headquarters in Enugu.

It can be recalled that Armed internet fraudsters fatally shot an officer after opening fire on a team of anti-graft operatives in Anambra on Friday, as reported by Peoples Gazette.

President General of the group, Comrade Joseph Chinedu Ezejiegu in a statement on Saturday said “While, in recent times, the on-going war against corruption has continued to yield appreciable impact with looted whopping sums traced, intercepted and repatriated through various anti-graft activities including whistleblowing, cybercriminals, we will not allow some criminal elements to drag the country back to an era of lawlessness.

While condoling the family of the deceased officer and also praying for the wounded officer in a critical condition, Ezejiegu said they are not disturbed but not surprised at such immorality and dubious move by the cybercriminals to divert or scare the Commission’s attention and frighten anti-graft operatives from sanitizing the cyber space.

“The gruesome attack on the officials of the EFCC was glaringly nothing but an endorsement of its commendable efforts in waging war against cybercrime in all ramifications which must be supported, upheld and sustained by all well-meaning Nigerians for socio-economic development and prosperity of the country.

“We call on the EFCC never to succumb to threat or intimidation by any person or group, but instead strengthen the fight against cybercrime through enhanced strategies”, the statement added.
