From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos

The Patriotic Vanguard (PV), a non governmental youth pressure group yesterday warned that those who had gone to court to stop the National conference were intent on destabilizing the country.

The group’s warning came on the heels of a court injunction instituted by Dr. Tunji Abayomi against the Federal Government and the National Assembly on the conference expected to kick off on March 17, 2014.

“Nothing must stop the conference, those who went to court are the enemies of this country because Nigerians have been yearning for a conference that will address many of its problems.”PV National Coordinator, Adeshina Animashaun said.

Speaking with newsmen in Lagos, Animashaun urged ethnic and civil pressure groups nationwide to close ranks ahead of the proposed national conference.

He lamented the discordant tunes still being played in some parts of the country over the conference.

“For the proposed conference to be meaningful and yield the expected result, all ethnic or group infightings must stop.

“The conference has been designed to accommodate all the issues agitating the minds of Nigerians for so many years. What matters most is not who goes there to represent but that those issues and interests are presented and settled” he said.

Animashaun noted that ethnic groups that continued to disagree among themselves may eventually loose out. He said that although the proposed conference was put in place by the Federal Government for Nigerians, the people of Nigeria could make or mar it.

“The success of the national conference will depend mostly on participation and acceptance. Leaderships of all groups to the conference must see to it that they ensure in-house peace and adopt a common agenda that will be acceptable to all within their groups” he said.
