The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing disruptions and agitations in the North since the assumption of power by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima administrations in 2023.
The President General of AYCF, Yerima Shettima, has attributed these agitations to a desperate section of the northern political elite who are allegedly plotting to prevent President Tinubu from seeking re-election in 2027.
According to Shettima, there is a deliberate effort by certain politicians in the North to set unrealistic and unattainable standards for the Tinubu administration, to discredit the government and sway public opinion against President Tinubu.
This campaign of vilification and destabilization is reportedly part of a broader strategy to weaken President Tinubu’s support base in the North, with Minister of State Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle being singled out as a primary target.
According to Shettima, the continuous attacks on key allies of President Tinubu, such as Matawalle, are part of a broader scheme to destabilize the government and prevent Tinubu’s potential reelection for a second term. The AYCF views these actions as desperate attempts by power seekers to halt the administration’s progress and reverse its anti-corruption efforts.
“Matawalle, a staunch supporter of the Tinubu administration, has been subjected to relentless attacks and smear campaigns in a bid to undermine President Tinubu’s alliances in the North. The AYCF views these actions as a calculated attempt to dismantle the President’s support network and thwart his chances of securing a second term in office.”
