A non governmental organization, the Opposition Watch Nigeria (OWN) has called on the International Community to place All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and government officials opposed to the legitimate call for international investigation to unravel the truth around the kidnap of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State on watch list.
The NGO made the call in a statement on Friday by its Media Coordinator, Aisha Bello in Abuja.
OWN said it is indeed alarmed by the heated antagonism against international probe into an act of terrorism in our country by APC leaders at a time the world is seeking for answers and solution to the ugly trend.
The actions of such APC leaders, the NGO said, smacked of an attempt to suppress the truth from international scrutiny and raises serious suspicion of complicity on acts of terrorism in Nigeria which has become an international concern.
It added that the fact that such APC leaders have chosen to fight against international intervention further exposes their party’s desperation to frustrate genuine efforts in the fight against terrorism and hold perpetrators accountable.
According to the statement, “OWN strongly holds that any attempt to block international probe into the abduction is an assault on the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens and a clear signal that APC leaders prioritize political cover-up over the protection of lives.
Opposition Watch Nigeria (OWN) therefor demands that the International Community, including the United Nations, the African Union, ECOWAS, the United States, the European Union, and other global partners, to place APC leaders whose actions undermine the fight against terrorism under watch.
“The world must take notice. The era of utterances and actions that embolden terrorism and obstructing justice must come to an end”, it stressed.
