Tinubu urges extractive firms to embrace low-carbon transition

The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative have welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s directive aimed at reducing soaring food prices across Nigeria.

They said the president’s order to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee is a timely response to rising living costs.

In a joint statement, NCPA leader Ahmed Abubakar and Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative coordinator Samaila Musa described the move as a necessary intervention. They said swift action was needed to ease the burden on families.

“The directive reflects a strong commitment to alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians.

“The rising cost of living is a critical concern, especially for low-income households.”

The organisations praised efforts to ensure the safe movement of farm produce across transport routes — a measure announced by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

They argued that addressing transport and logistical barriers could help stabilise food prices.

They urged the FEC committee to work urgently with farmers, traders, and transporters to ensure efficient food distribution nationwide.

The statement also called for investment in infrastructure, technology, and supply chain management to streamline agricultural delivery.

Both groups pledged to support the government’s efforts and advocate for consumers.

“With the right measures, food can become affordable and accessible to all Nigerians,” the statement said .
