Katsina Police arrest 188 suspects in one month

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 188 suspects linked to 120 cases, including rape, murder, and armed robbery.

The command spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu made this known on Monday when he addressed newsmen on the command’s activities in the month of March.

He said that out of the 188 cases, 98 are being prosecuted in various courts.

These include 14 armed robbery cases, two suspects for gunrunning, a cattle rustler, five bandits informants, 14 accused of culpable homicide, 20 accused of rape, and 22 persons facing trial for peddling illicit drugs.

According to Aliyu, among those arrested was a high-profile criminal linked to the killing of a popular musician Abu Amshi.

“We also disrupted two informants and gunrunners supplying logistics to criminal groups in Jibia and Safana LGAs.

“The command successfully rescued 12 kidnapped victims. The victims have been medically examined and reunited with their families.

“In the same period, we recovered 7 firearms, including 2 PKT rifles, 2 AK 47, 3 locally fabricated guns, 2 ammunition belts, and 974 rounds of live ammunition.

“We also recovered 30 rustled animals and 5 motorcycles used for criminal operations, among other exhibits. Recovered exhibits are in custody and will be tendered in court as evidence,” the Command spokesperson said.

He said to deny criminals freedom of action, the command has conducted targeted raids of identified criminal black spots across the state.

“We heightened our vigilance and security across strategic locations, including major highways. Also, community-policing engagements were held in communities to enhance public trust and intelligence flow.

“These achievements were made possible through sustained collaboration with our sister security agencies in the state as well as our host communities.

“Joint patrols and real-time intelligence sharing have significantly improved our response time and operational success. While we acknowledge these gains, we are aware that more work remains to be done,” Aliyu said.

He assured that the Katsina State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to secure lives and property,  and commended the gallantry of officers and the cooperation of law-abiding citizens.
