Security: Police move to boost inter-agency collaboration in Sokoto
From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto
The new Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Mr Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has visited security agencies in the state to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in addressing emerging security threats in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the visit was in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for police commands and formations to bolster collaboration in tackling insecurity nationwide.
The visit took the Commissioner to state headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Department of State Services (DSS).
At the Immigration service, the police commissioner and the Immigration Controller discussed border security, migration patterns, and the need to jointly prevent the illegal movement of persons and arms across the state’s international borders.
At the Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto/Zamfara Command, discussions focused on curbing smuggling, intercepting prohibited items, and disrupting the supply of resources that may fuel banditry and other criminal activities.
The police commissioner, who held closed-door meeting with the state Director of DSS, reviewed current threat assessments, intelligence-sharing protocols, and joint operational strategies necessary to neutralize criminal elements.
In all the places visited, Shaffa said no single agency can successfully combat the complex security challenges in the state and the region.
He said that the command would prioritize synergy with the security agencies, enhance intelligence-led policing, and prioritise joint patrols with other security services.
“The IGP’s directive is clear: we must break down silos and work as a unified force to protect lives and property. My visit today is not ceremonial; it is a commitment to operational integration,” the CP stated.
The visit elicited commitment to strengthen information sharing mechanisms and participate in coordinated operations.
