Concerned Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Youth and the Benue Youth Frontiers for good governance have frowned at the political tension in Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency.
The groups at a press conference held in Makurdi at the weekend, expressed sadness and displeasure at the assault on the House of Representatives member for the constituency Chief Philip Agbese by some youths in Ado.
Leader of the groups Hon. Dan Atayi fumed at the attitude of some persons who were cajoled or purportedly instigated to cause crisis or to disgrace the distinguished federal legislator, maintaining that as the highest political office holder in the constituency, he deserves every respect from all constituents irrespective of party affiliations.
“We make bold to narrate this because of power tussles so the constituents know that by democratic rights and elective cadre, Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo Federal Constituency is under the Federal legislator Chief Agbese and as such, we strongly advise that he be respected by all political office holders in Enone(Ado, Okpokwu/Ogbadibo) in accordance and cognizance with his office and democratic status as the elected representative of the people.
“While we acknowledge that a feud existed between the House of Representatives member and Governor Hyacinth Alia before now, for which they have both moved on, we see third parties’ feud from the three local governments against Agbese as politics taken too far and errant sycophancy.”
The groups equally castigated Governor Alia for illegal removal of the first indigenous Rector of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo in Okpokwu local government area Dr. Nathaniel Oche and his replacement by a tribesman of the Governor.
