Hundreds of bike riding gunmen suspected to be armed bandits have invaded Government Day Secondary School in Kaya town under Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and abducted the school Principal, Vice Principal and unidentified number of students.
A resident of the affected Kaya town who preferred anonymity spoke to our reporter, saying, the bandits stormed the town and surrounded the school while the students were seated waiting for slated time to write a JLC examination, and started shooting sporadically to scare away any rescue movement.
He said, “Suddenly, the students started shouting for help, but there was nothing one could do to arrest the situation, rather than witnessing people running helter skelter into every direction for safety. The unfortunate development gave chance for the bandits to continue with their operation unchallenged”.
Another survivor narrated that, the bandits remained in the school for nearly an hour before they arranged both the students and the teachers in columns and disappeared into the nearby bushes.
This was coming just few days after the abducted students of Bakura College of Agriculture and Science were released through the efforts of the State Government and the security agencies in the state.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Shehu Mohammed, did not pick his calls at the time of filling this report.
