Gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, have shot two police officers in Nasarawa State during a stop-and-search operation on a highway on Saturday morning.
Though reports claimed the policemen were killed, the police authorities denied the claim, saying they only sustained injuries.
Three officers were recently killed by men of the underworld, at the `Many Have Gone` area in the Nasarawa-Eggon local government area.
Investigations revealed that the incident took place when the officers were on routine assignment, while some Police sources said that the two officers were shot in the chest and stomach respectively.
Both officers were attached to Operation Nasara section of the state Police Command.
According to one of the witnesses, there were five officers on duty that night and two of them were shot, while the remaining three escaped.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of Operations, DCP Long-Long, has, however, ordered that the three officers be detained at Nasarawa-Eggon Police station pending further investigation into the incident.
