The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has started screening luggage to ensure compliance with weight limits and detect any contraband.
The Chairman of the Luggage Screening and Weighing Sub-Committee, Professor Muhammadu Mustapha Gwadabe, stated that the exercise began on Thursday night.
A statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, Malam Ibraheem Musa, mentioned that Prof Gwadabe praised Kaduna State pilgrims for adhering to the airline’s instructions.
The Sub-Committee Chairman also said that the agency has set up scales on all floors of the building to allow pilgrims to weigh their luggage before the official screening.
He confirmed that the luggage of passengers on the first flight has already been checked and that their 23-kilogram bags are being removed from the pilgrims’ residence.
Prof Gwadabe reiterated that pilgrims are limited to 23 kilograms per bag, with hand luggage not exceeding 8 kilograms.
The Sub-Committee Chairman also emphasized that passengers are not permitted to carry sharp objects or liquids in their check-in bags, and warned against bringing large amounts of perfume onboard.
Prof Gwadabe, who also announced that the return flight will now depart on June 16 instead of June 15, urged pilgrims to be patient.
He advised them to use the extra day to pray for themselves, their families, Kaduna State, and Nigeria as a whole.
