Damaturu Senior Magistrate Court 11, has sentenced a 32 year old housewife, Hadiza Mohammed of Ali Marami ward in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, for receiving stolen properties.
Police prosecutor, Cpl. Zakar Saleh told the court that the accused person, Hadiza Mohammed, had on three different dates, bought one goat, and two sheep from one Habiba A. Ibrahim of Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate, Damaturu at the cost of N34, 000.00.
He told the court that the domestic animals she bought were later identified as stolen properties belonging to one Asabe Ezekiel and one Hajare Sarki, all of Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate.
He further stated that the offence contradicts, and is punishable under section 317 of the penal code law.
Section 317 of the penal code law recommends punishment with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 14 years or with fine or with both for whoever dishonestly receives or retains any stolen property knowing or having reason to the same to be stolen property.
The presiding judge, Gambo A. Ibrahim, in his judgment, sentenced the convict to serve for three years imprisonment or to pay a fine of N8, 000.00.
