A suspect, Mannir Salihu, has explained how he orchestrated the murder of his friend, late Idris Bashir, who loaned him the sum of N385,000.
Salihu who spoke to the media at the premises of Kaduna State Police Command Headquarters yesterday, said he has been a closed associate of the deceased for the past 8 years and had a smooth relationship with him because of his humane nature.
According to him, less than 2 years ago, he approached the deceased for a loan of N385,000 to execute a business idea which he graciously granted him.
Salihu explained that early this year, the late Bashir reminded him of the loan which he promised to pay up by April, although to him, “I did not have intention to repay the loan,” he affirmed.
The suspect who is a civil servant with a Federal Agency in Kaduna said rather he started plotting how to eliminate late Bashir, and in the process got in touch with one Aliyu Yahaya of Anguwan Magajiya, Zaria City, and they agreed to truncate his friend’s life.
“We lured him into an uncompleted building in Zaria where we killed him and dumped the body in an abandoned well. All of this just to avoid the loan repayment,” he confessed.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammad Jalige, said the Command received a distress call on June 5, 2021 from the father of the deceased, Malam Bashir of Zaria town that his son left home on June 4 and has since not returned home.
He said he suspected his son’s friend Mannir Salihu as responsible for his disappearance.
“After investigation, we apprehended the suspect who disclosed that himself, and one Aliyu Yahaya were responsible for the death of Idris.
“The suspect led the police to the scene where the body of late Idris was exhumed and taken to Hajiya Gambo Sawaba’s General Hospital for examination, and later handed over to the parents for interment. The suspects will be charged to court very soon,” he said.
