The Northern Youth Frontiers has commended President Bola Tinubu for undertaking the Umrah pilgrimage to pray for Nigeria’s peace and development, while calling for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Massusuka.
The coalition also described the killing of the cleric as a threat to national unity and peaceful coexistence, urging security agencies to launch an immediate investigation into the incident.
The National Chairman of NYF, Sama Musa, stated this in a statement, stressing the importance of religious tolerance, prayers and collective efforts in building a united Nigeria.
Musa said Nigeria’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity made prayers and mutual understanding essential to sustaining national unity.
He commended Tinubu for seeking divine intervention through the lesser Hajj, describing the pilgrimage as a demonstration of spiritual commitment to the country’s peace and stability.
He said, “As a people of faith, prayer remains one of the fundamental pillars holding Nigeria together despite our cultural and religious differences.
“The peace of our nation is paramount to national development and nation-building.
“We commend His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for taking out time to perform the Umrah pilgrimage and seek divine guidance for our country.”
The coalition also appreciated Islamic and Christian clerics across the country for their continued prayers for Nigeria’s unity, peaceful coexistence and prosperity.
On the killing of Massusuka, NYF described the incident as tragic and condemned those responsible, accusing them of undermining the country’s fragile peace.
Musa said the late cleric was a strong advocate of national unity whose teachings promoted religious tolerance, peace and mutual respect.
He added, “We condemn the tragic killing of respected Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Massusuka, describing the perpetrators as clear enemies of Nigeria who are intent on destabilising the country’s fragile peace.
“The late Yahaya Massusuka was a firm believer in national unity, whose core teachings centred on religious tolerance, peace and mutual respect — virtues that are critical ingredients if Nigeria is to achieve its full potential.”
The coalition called on Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the killing.
It urged the authorities to identify, arrest and prosecute those behind the attack, insisting that the perpetrators must face the full weight of the law.
NYF reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote national cohesion, security and peaceful coexistence across the country.
