How UNICEF spent trillions on maternal health services in north east

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has explained how it spent trillions of naira to ensure that maternal and other related health issues are being eradicated in north eastern part of the country.
Speaking during the maternal neonatal child health week in Gombe, UNICEF chief Bauchi field office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique highlighted some of the challenges affecting newborn child including mothers which UNICEF deemed necessary to key into, by averting some of the challenges through donating trillions of naira to ensure that such menace are eradicated.
She decried that most women in north east deliver their babies at home rather than health facilities, adding that such occurrences may likely loss the baby or both during delivery.
She advised women not to hesitate to engage themselves in health facilities whenever they are about to deliver.
The chief officer of UNICEF Bauchi field office also said regarding to high increase of maternal child, at least 60 percent of maternal is on increase in north east which is alarming she said.
Rafique noted that UNICEF had played a vital role in actualizing problems affecting maternal and other related health issues in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi and Plateau states under her supervision.
“We should do the needful by making it a priority to bring an end to this menace of maternal on child health.
“What we are saying is not only in north east, but the entire country,” she added.
She however, appreciated government’s commitment to prompt action on ensuring that health facilities are equipped with necessary drugs, and other consumables to avert such problems.
“Funding health facilities is another milestone where government had put more interest with the support of UNICEF to provide logistics to benefit the health facilities she said.
“I’m over whelmed to be here to monitor maternal neonatal child week in township health facility Gidan magani where I have seen myself”, she stated.
Speaking earlier, the deputy manager, township health facility Gidan magani, Mrs. Halima Musa also emphasized that maternal neonatal child week has brought synergy between the health facility and parents who brought their children for immunization.
According to her, the exercise was free to ensure that children are immunize without hindrance.
