The Edo State Police Command has arrested two hunters for shooting five villagers at a funeral in Ama Village in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the State.
The names of the suspects; John Ebatame and Moses Okoyomon, according to police preliminary investigation, allegedly used double barrel gun to shoot at the victims while heading for the funeral of one late Martina Rabi on Friday.
SP. Kotongs Bello, spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Sunday.
He said: “Edo state police Command through Divisional Police Officer Agbede Division, CSP Iredia Ogiata, received information that there is an ongoing shooting at Ama Community under his area of jurisdiction and immediately mobilized police operatives from the Division to the scene of the incident.
He explained that the hunters escorted the Corpse from Ubiaja in Esan South-East LGA to Ama Village for the funeral where John fired gun shot into the air, which resulted to the cutting of the Community electricity cable.
The incident, according to police, provoked angry youths of Ama who confronted the hunter (John) who immediately threatened to shoot at his accusers.
During the heated argument, John fired gunshot which injured five persons, according to the police spokesman.
He added that one double barrel gun and seven live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
