HYPREP reiterates commitment to provide portable water in ogoni land

Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has reiterated its commitment  towards providing more   potable water to impacted communities in Ogoniland.

The project Coordinator stated  this at the weekend  as it joined the global community in commemorating World Water Day, with this year’s theme, “Glacier Preservation”.

Speaking at the commemoration in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, explained that this  year’s theme “Glacier Preservation”highlights the importance of protecting freshwater sources, which are crucial for sustaining ecosystems, supporting human life, and regulating the climate.

Zabbey stated that  “Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and we are working tirelessly to ensure that communities in Ogoniland have access to this basic necessity.”

He said in Ogoniland, HYPREP has made significant strides in providing potable water to communities affected by hydrocarbon pollution.

The project coordinator noted that with effort of his organization, “To date, 30 Ogoni communities have access to potable water”.

The project has rehabilitated existing water infrastructure, established new facilities, and implemented sustainable water management strategies.

“The  project’s potable water initiatives are designed to provide sustainable solutions that meet the needs of impacted communities, restoring dignity, improving public health, and securing a better future for the people of Ogoniland”.

He also called on all stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, community leaders, and other Niger Delta communities, to join forces in ensuring that communities in Ogoniland have access to clean water and a protected environment.

“Water is life, and together, we can ensure everyone in Ogoniland and beyond has access to clean, safe, and sustainable drinking water,” Prof. Zabbey emphasized.
