Former Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has spoken frankly about why she no longer encourages people to audition for the popular reality TV show.
In a recent conversation, Phyna said that while BBNaija offers massive exposure during the show, the fame housemates enjoy often fades quickly once they leave the house. According to her, the excitement that keeps viewers glued to contestants does not translate into lasting relevance outside the show.
She explained that the fan base largely remains the same from one season to another, with attention simply shifting to new housemates each year rather than expanding. As a result, former contestants struggle to maintain the same level of buzz they enjoyed while on the show.
“The steeze housemates have inside the house doesn’t last,” Phyna said. “It’s the same fans that move from one season to another. Nothing really new. When you now tell people you came out of BBNaija, they don’t rate it the way they used to before.”
Phyna also noted that the show no longer carries the same credibility it once had, adding that being a former housemate does not command the respect or opportunities it used to attract.
She further pointed out that many people have unrealistic expectations about life after BBNaija, assuming that contestants automatically become wealthy, influential, and settled. In reality, she said, several ex-housemates are quietly struggling behind the scenes, despite projecting a glamorous lifestyle on social media.
According to Phyna, the contrast between the attention inside the house and the reality outside can be overwhelming for many contestants who are unprepared for life after the cameras stop rolling.
