ICAN to review accounting curriculum to compete international standard

The institutes of chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) have reiterated its commitment in reviewing the Accounting curriculum of the National Universities commission (NUC) meet international standards.
This was made known when the body led by its president Dame onome Joy Adewuyi paid a working visit on the Hon Minister of Education Adamu Adamu in his office in Abuja.
She said that this is to ensure that accounting students, and prospective ones, receive the training that would make them relevant in today’s market as well as to be equipped to face future challenges.
According to the lCAN President, they have concluded the review of the accounting curriculum of the National Universities commission (NUC) and that of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has also reached advanced stage.
ln specific terms, she said that they intend to commence the review of the curriculum of the National commission of colleges of EDUCATIoN (NCCE), The west African Examinations council (WAEC) and the National Examination council (NECO).
Making observations on the review of the NUC accounting curricula, she emphasized that the review revealed some gaps in the current curriculum.
She reiterated ICAN’s willingness to provide technical assistance to the NUC and other stakeholders on the modalities for updating the curriculum to meeting lnternational Standards.
Responding, the Hon Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary
Arc Sonny Echono acknowledged ICAN’s giant stride in reviewing the Accounting
Education Curriculum, stating that the Federal Ministry of Education is committed towards ensuring that ICAN achieves all their goals as it concerns Curriculum review.
Recognizing ICAN financial impute, Echono assured them that all their request will be looked into.
