Ahead of elections into the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), the President of the Society for the Promotion of Sports (SPS), Vincent Oche Michael has tipped the initiator of the Mark D’Ball championship, Igoche Mark as the best candidate that has the capacity to develop and reposition the game of Basketball in Nigeria.
Michael in a statement in Abuja on Sunday said that Mark has for over 20 years shown consistency in not only developing basketball, but has continued to not only run a basketball club and also sponsor the yearly mark D’Ball tournament , aimed at developing the game even to the grassroots.
The publisher of the Sports Boss Magazine further appealed to the basketball family in Nigeria to cue behind Igoche Mark whom he described as a focused and dedicated businessman with the tenacity and reach to give the sport a new lease of life.
“He is a passionate advocate for the development of domestic basketball in Nigeria. He initiated the “Mark D’Ball” championship and has consistently called for professionalism and accountability within Nigerian sports federations.
“The Society for the Promotion of Sports with some of the most reputable sports administrators on its board is canvassing for the Igoche Mark to become the NBBF president, because of his love and passion for the development of the sports. He has personally spent over N3 billion Naira to promote and develop grassroots basketball in Nigeria”.
The renowned sports promoter urged the stakeholders to come together and support Mark, for the betterment of Basketball in Nigeria, and not those he claimed prefer using their money to induce voters just to remain in office.
