Two Super Eagles stars, George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor, have been named among the top 10 players of Matchday 1 of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This was after both players made a strong impact in Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo on Friday.
Ilenikhena was ranked seventh on the list, while Usor took the 10th position following their goals against Madagascar in their first competitive appearances for the senior national team.
Ilenikhena made the bigger impact during the first half, scoring the equalizer in stoppage time after Madagascar had taken the lead through Ehsan Kari in the 16th minute.
The 20-year-old striker was making his senior debut after receiving his first call-up to the Super Eagles and showed good composure when Alex Iwobi picked him out inside the box.
Ilenikhena kept his cool to finish the chance and send Nigeria into the break level at 1-1.
His goal came at a critical moment for the Super Eagles, who had struggled to break down the visitors after falling behind early in the game.
Usor, meanwhile, had to wait until the second half for his opportunity.
The forward came on in the 61st minute, replacing Samuel Chukwueze, and needed only four minutes to make his presence felt.
After receiving the ball from Semi Ajayi, Usor drove forward and produced a fine individual finish in the 65th minute to put Nigeria ahead for the first time.
The goal completed Nigeria’s comeback and secured three points in their opening Group L fixture.
Nigeria finished the opening round second in Group L, behind Guinea-Bissau on goal difference after the Djurtus also began their campaign with a victory.
