A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday directed the Legal Aid Council to get a lawyer to defend Charles Okah, one of the suspects charged with complicity in the October 1, 2010 bomb blast at the Eagle square in Abuja.
Following the incidence, Okah was charged with terrorism, and has been facing the court. His defence counsel, Mr Festus Keyamo, who had defended him since the case started four years ago was relieved.
The decision relieving Keyamo as Okah;s counsel was communicated to Justice Gabriel Kolawole at the last adjourned date by a lawyer from his law firm named John Ainetor.
When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, Okah was in court but there was no counsel to defend him.
This development prompted the court to direct that arrangements be put in place to get a lawyer from the Legal Aid Council to defend Okah, so as not to deny him fair hearing.
The court adjourned the case till February 19 and 25, 2015.
