The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has removed 2,103 cases of double voter registration from Ekiti State’s voter register as part of measures aimed at strengthening the credibility of the June 20 governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, disclosed the development on Tuesday during the commission’s second quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders in Abuja, describing the exercise as a critical step in preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

It said after removing duplicate entries, the final voter register for the election stands at 1,059,360 eligible voters.
Amupitan said the commission remains committed to maintaining an accurate and credible register as preparations intensify not only for the Ekiti governorship election but also for the 2027 general elections.
Beyond voter registration, INEC assured stakeholders that arrangements covering election logistics, deployment of technology, training of personnel and security coordination were progressing according to schedule.
The commission also pledged that all 2,445 polling units spread across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas would open by 8:30 a.m. on election day.
Amupitan further urged political parties to respect the recently signed peace accord, calling on candidates, party officials, agents and supporters to adhere to its provisions throughout the electoral process.
