The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday, commenced the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo and Ondo States ahead of the governorship elections holding in the two states this year.
The exercise, according to INEC, is holding in 397 centres in the two States.
This was confirmed in a statement yesterday by an INEC National Commissioner and Chairman,
Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Sam Olumekun in Abuja.
The statement however disclosed that the CVR is holding in the Commission’s Ikpoba Okha LGA office located at 16 Custom Road, off Benin/Auchi Road, Benin City.
This , according to the commission, is sequel to the flooding of its State Headquaters following torrential rains on Friday last week.
The statement by Olumekun urged all eligible citizens in Edo and Ondo States, who are not registered voters to seize the opportunity of the CVR to register.
It stressed that it is also an opportunity for those who wish to transfer their registration from other States of the Federation to the two States or from one location to another within the States to do so.
Similarly, requests for replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), the statement added, can be made at the registration centres.
Additionally, uncollected PVCs will also be available at the registration centres for collection on presentation of the Temporary Voters’ Cards (TVCs) by registered voters in person, it said, stating, expressly that no cards will be collected by proxy.
The Commission appealed to eligible citizens to come out en masse to register and to do so early with a view to avoiding last minute rush.
The statement by INEC reads, “The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) commenced today, Monday 27th May 2024 as scheduled. The exercise is holding in 397 centres in the two States.
“However, as announced by the Commission yesterday, the CVR is holding in our Ikpoba Okha LGA office located at 16 Custom Road, off Benin/Auchi Road, Benin City. This is sequel to the flooding of our State Headquaters following torrential rains on Friday last week.”
