INEC, group hold capacity building workshop for electoral officers in Kaduna

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Democratic Governance for Development (DGD) project yesterday commenced a workshop for electoral officers ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Speaking at the workshop, a national election expert with the UNDP/DGD project, Prof Bolade Eyinla said the workshop would help to develop capacity for the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and Continuous Voter Registration (CVRs).

According to him, the workshop is to build capacity of officers of the commission and to equip them for effective distribution of the PVCS and the best way to carry out the CVRs, such that will guarantee free, fair and credible elections in 2015.

The workshop which is the 3rd phase and the last, would train electoral officers from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Borno, Niger and Nasarawa States on the exercise, to ensure its success.

According to him, the mechanism for the distribution of the PVCs is very critical and need total concentration.

He therefore stressed that, the training will also help to equip electoral officers, and the training will help give clear instruction on those who are eligible to participate in the CVR.

He said there was need for more enlightenment campaign to sensitize people who are qualified.

He further stressed that participant, after the workshop would have developed competency and the capacity for the distribution of the PVC and for the conduct of CVRs.

Speaking also at the workshop, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, Director Voter Education, INEC, who represented the Dr chris Iyimoga, chairman IPC, said the training will assist in tackling the challenges of the earlier phase.
