The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Nasarawa state, has suspended its proposed voters card and continuous voter’s registration schedule for November 7th to 9th, due to logistic problems.
This was contained in a press statement, signed by the Head of Department (Voter Education and publicity, Alhaji Abdullahi M. Ibrahim for Resident Electoral Commissioner and made available to news men in Lafia yesterday.
Though there was no details as to the postponement, according to the press statement, the INEC was faced with logistic challenges which brought about the alteration.
According to the statement, a new dates for the exercise will be November 28thto 30th, for the distribution of permanent voter’s card and December 3rd to 8th for continuous voter’s registration.
The statement called on the people of the state to bear with the commission over the postponement.
In a related development, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa state has called on the stakeholder’s and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make frantic effort in ensuring that nobody is disenfranchise during the exercise to be conducted by December.
The state PDP chairman, Chief Yunana Iliya, who made the plea yesterday while briefing journalist in his office, implored citizens of the state that eligible to avail themselves for the registration and not to be deter by any force (s).
Iliya further appealed to the state government to, as a matter of urgency, bring an end to the insecurity facing the state, which according to him, has rendered some homes displaced.
