Sector Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Zamfara state, Engineer Ahmed Abubakar Lugard, has lamented the number of students the school matriculated at its 27th matriculation ceremony which he said are 1,178 students against the 4,000 matriculated annually into the institution.
Lugard, described the negative development responsible for the number of students seeking admission into the school as ‘backwardness to the education sector.
Lugard who said the current security situation in the country is responsible added that majority of the students matriculated in the revious years were from the southern part of the country, who according to him, were scared away by the well circulated reports of nsurgents operations in the North-East.
“We matriculated up to 4,000 students in previous years, but one has to believe that, the interested students from the Southern part of the nation were prevented from seeking admission into the institution by the reports on the dangerous insurgents”, Lugard stressed.
The Rector said the arrangements embarked upon by the institution to continue to improve the capability of the internal security will
forestall any break down of law and order, warning the students to always be vigilante and report criminal elements and questionable activities to the appropriate authorities to checkmate them.
“Measures have been taken, security strategies were already put in place to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties of students, therefore, the environment is quiet conducive for teaching and learning”, he assured.
